Coconut Chutney  

Preperation Time: 5 min.

Serves: 2 - 3


Grated coconut - 1 cup

Ginger - 1 tsp (chopped)

Green chillies - 2

Roasted chana dal - 1 tsp

Salt - to taste

Water - as required

For seasoning:

Oil - 1 tsp

Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp

Dry red chillies - 1, cut into half

Curry leaves - few

Preparation Method

Grind grated coconut, ginger, green chillies, roasted chana dal and salt to a smooth paste, adding enough water to grind. Keep aside.

Now heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds and then add dry red chillies and curry leaves.

Add water according to the desired consistency of the chutney.

When it starts boiling add the ground coconut paste and mix well.

Adjust salt and turn the flame off.

Serve with idli or dosa.


If you prefer to have a thick chutney, you can avoid adding water. You can serve the chutney in the paste form itself.
