Kadala Upperi / Brown Chana Stir Fry

Serves: 4 - 6
Ingredients
Brown chana - 200gms (soak overnight)
Grated coconut - 5 Tbsp
Chilli powder - 1 tsp or to taste
Coriander powder - 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - a few
Salt - to taste
Preparation Method
Soak kadala in water overnight. Kadala will double in volume after soaking.
Cook kadala in a pressure cooker. Drain water and keep the kadala aside.
In a pan fry grated coconut till it turns light golden brown.
Then add turmeric powder, chilli powder and coriander powder and saute for a while under a very low flame.
Grind this to a fine thick paste by adding a little water.
Heat oil in another pan and splutter mustard seeds and sauté curry leaves.
Then add ground coconut paste and kadala. Mix well.
Saute for about 5 - 8 minutes till it becomes dry.
Serve with rice.
