Pacha Cherupayar Curry / Whole Green Moong Dal Curry

It is a very easy curry to make with green moong dal. Again my mom’s one of the simplest recipes I like.

Cherupayar Curry is one of the first things I learnt to make after the marriage. Some old memories… We love this dish with steaming rice and fried pappadums. Enjoy!!


Cooking Time: 20 min.

Serves: 4

Ingredients


Whole green moong dal / pacha cherupayar - 200gms (soak overnight)

Water - 2 1/2 cups

Salt - to taste

For seasoning

Oil - 4 tsp

Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp

Shallots small - 10 (sliced)

Crushed red chilli flakes - 2 tsp

Curry leaves - a few

Preparation Method


Soak moong dal over night.

Pressure cook with salt and water for 1 whistle and keep aside.

Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds.

Add shallots, salt and saute till it turns light golden brown.

Add curry leaves and crushed red chilli flakes (on a low flame) and sauté well. (Make sure that you do not burn the chilli flakes).

Pour this seasoning to the cooked cherupayar.

Add water according to your desired consistency of the curry, boil for a minute, check salt and mix well.

Serve with roti or even with rice.
