Pineapple Pachadi / Pineapple in Yogurt Gravy

It is a traditional Kerala dish made with pineapple and yogurt. This is one of the dishes for all the festivals in Kerala and falls somewhere between curry, salad and condiment.

Pachadi can be prepared with different vegetables like pineapple, cucumber etc.  Pineapple pachadi is my all time favourite among pachadis. Anyways, try this healthy, refreshing and simple pachadi and Enjoy!

Serves: 4 - 5

Ingredients


Pineapple - 500 gms (cut into small pieces)

Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp

Chilli powder- 1 tsp

Yogurt - 1 cup, beaten

salt - to taste

For grinding

Grated coconut - 1 cup (see the measurements here)

Cumin seeds(jeera) - 1/4 tsp

Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp

For seasoning

Oil - 1  Tbsp

Mustard seeds - 3/4 tsp

Dry red chilli - 3

Curry leaves - 2 stem


Preparation Method


Cook pineapple in a vessel with turmeric powder, chilli powder, salt and water till it becomes soft.

Grind grated coconut and jeera  to a fine thick paste addding just enough water to grind. Then add mustard seeds and grind for 3 more pulses.

Add this paste to the pineapple and simmer for 2 minutes. (Make sure that it doesn’t get too watery)

Let it cool.

Add beaten yogurt and mix well.

In another small pan, heat 1 Tbsp of oil and splutter mustard seeds.

Add dry red chillies and curry leaves and saute for a while.

Add this seasoning to the curry and mix well.
