Ulli (Shallots) Chammanthi (thick form)

Cooking Time: 3 - 4 min.

Shallots(kunjulli) small - 18

Grated coconut - 4 Tbsp

Dry red chillies - 4

Tamarind - a tiny piece, seedless

Salt - to taste

Oil - 2 Tbsp

Preparation Method

Cut shallots into half if big.

Heat oil in a pan and saute shallots.

When the colour of the shallots starts to change, add grated coconut, dry chillies and saute.

When the coconut starts to change its colour, turn the flame off.

Let it cool and grind this mixture along with salt and tamarind.

Chammanthi is ready to be served.

It goes well with Dosa or Idli.


If shallots are not available, it can be replaced with 1 big onion.
